Chief Executive Officer
Sam has been part of the Odonata team since inception and stepped into the role of CEO in 2017, working closely with our partners and empowering and enabling them to save our native wildlife and increase biodiversity.
Sam is an environmental entrepreneur. He has a founded and sat on the board for multiple social enterprises, and most notably established and co-founded farm match-making social enterprise, Cultivate Farms, and fundraising platform, Edge Pledge. Sam completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Science at the University of Melbourne, and after graduating he spent 12 years working for the Victorian Government in environmental policy.
Sam’s enthusiasm and passion for his work are contagious. He has a great belief in building strong relationships that are able hold a team together and make it much greater than the sum of its parts. It is his passion and belief in what he is doing that has allowed him to foster some of Odonata’s key partnerships across the public and private sectors, with the likes of the Victorian Government Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, NAB, CJ Arms, Biosis and Tilt, as well as be an important driving force behind many of our most notable and successful projects, including our sanctuary network, the 2021 Great Australian Platypus Search and the Wild Idea Business Incubator Program.
It is Sam’s ability to spot potential and opportunities that are filled with possibility that has allowed him to garner a great deal of success on Odonata’s behalf. Under his guidance as CEO, Odonata has become a leading conservation not-for-profit that is working to protect, breed and de-list threatened species through a wealth of partnerships, projects and sanctuaries.
